Quite obviously, there were two skills critical in working as a science editor like having some science background (or capable of understanding), and being a good reader/writer. This was quite an ego boost for me. Even though I lacked skills in research and STEM, that didn't mean I couldn't contribute to the field at all. However, what I found up exercising the most working on this project was collaborative team working, time management, large-picture thinking, and giving encouraging advice to writers. My skill with writers was helping them discuss and transition from idea to idea. What should they go into detail, and when to stop. My understanding of content help in discussing with illustrators what images should be drawn. |
